Based on data from the California Highway Patrol, four highways in Los Angeles have been identified as truck crash hot spots. These are the 5 and the 710, both within the East L.A. Interchange; the stretch where the 60 and 57 converge; and another area in the 710 between the 105 and the 91 freeways. A study by the South California Association of Governments (SCAG) says that the foremost cause of truck accidents in Los Angeles is human or driver error; but other factors, such as close proximity between trucks and smaller vehicles, congestion, and merging roads also contribute to the numbers. Moreover, the SCAG also said that some incidents are also brought upon by other motorists who drive too close to trucks, or in the truck drivers’ blind spots.
