Domestic Abuse Victims Also Need a Brain Injury Lawyer to File Claims

A traumatic brain injury is a form of brain injury that results from a sudden impact and damage. There are two known types. The primary brain damage is the immediate effect of the impact, while the secondary brain damage is the effect felt over time. Among the common victims of traumatic brain injuries are people involved in domestic violence, and for most of them, it may be secondary—a consequence of long-term, consistent physical trauma. Keri Walker, who is now a coordinator for a domestic violence shelter, recalls how, thirty years ago, she drove down towards oncoming traffic and it felt totally “normal”, as if the danger didn’t even register to her. That was probably the first sign of her traumatic brain injury (TBI).
