Spinal Cord Injuries and Filing for a Lawsuit

Injuries to the spinal cord are very serious whether it was caused by an accident or something else. It is devastating to the victim and will impact his or her life in a big way. Spinal cord injuries can result in partial or full loss of motor control and sensation, leaving victims paralyzed in the lower parts of the body or in all four limbs.

The most common cause of spinal cord injuries are motor vehicle accidents, accounting for 42 percent according to the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center. Those who have suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of someone else’s negligence may be eligible to file a lawsuit.  As with other personal injury claims based on negligence, there must be proof that the party being sued is legally responsible for the accident. On the other hand, if the injury resulted from a defective product, it is possible to receive compensation from the company that manufactured the product.

Those who have suffered a spinal cord injury where someone else is at fault should hire a personal injury lawyer to help in evaluating the case and prove that the injury was caused by another party’s negligence in order to recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, and others.
